Cookie Policy
_Last updated: 13 August 2026_
This Cookie Policy explains how the OKIAS Messenger website and OKIAS Web (the web app) use cookies, local storage, and similar technologies. It complements our Privacy Policy.
The short version: we use these technologies only to make the site and web app work and to remember your basic preferences. We do not use advertising cookies, we do not track you across other websites, and we do not sell any data collected through these technologies.
What these technologies are
- Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser, for example to keep you signed in.
- Local storage and IndexedDB are browser storage areas that web apps use to remember settings and hold data on your device. OKIAS Web relies on IndexedDB to store the material needed for end-to-end encryption locally, so encryption and decryption happen on your device.
How we use them
We keep our use to a minimum and group it into two categories:
Strictly necessary
Technologies required for the site and web app to function. Without these, core features will not work. Examples:
- keeping you signed in on OKIAS Web during your session;
- storing encryption material locally (in IndexedDB) so the web app can encrypt and decrypt messages on your device;
- basic security and abuse-prevention protections.
Preferences
Technologies that remember choices you make, so you don't have to set them again. Examples:
- your language (English or Urdu);
- your light or dark theme.
These preferences are stored locally in your browser and are not used to profile you.
We do not use analytics or advertising cookies that track you across other sites, and we do not run third-party ad networks on OKIAS.
Local storage on the web app
OKIAS Web stores encryption keys and message data locally in your browser (for example, in IndexedDB) so that end-to-end encryption works on your device. This local data stays on your device. Clearing your browser storage, signing out, or unlinking the device removes it — and, as with any device, unlinking immediately revokes that browser's access.
Managing cookies and local storage
You can control and delete cookies and local storage through your browser settings. Most browsers let you block or clear them, and some offer per-site controls. Note that blocking or clearing strictly necessary technologies may stop parts of the site or web app from working — for example, you may be signed out of OKIAS Web or lose locally stored encryption material for that browser.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the product evolves. When we make changes, we will update the "last updated" date above.
